Some sermons leave us encouraged. Others ask us to change the way we live.
On Sunday, 12 July 2026, Ps Larry Elliott continued our GOing Deeper series at 3C South Coast with a message about becoming unshakeable — not untouched by pressure, but steady because our confidence rests in God’s character and His Word.
Hebrews 12:28–29 says that we are receiving “a kingdom which cannot be shaken”.
How Do I Become Unshakeable?
We become unshakeable as we know God personally, pray according to His Word, remain persistent when answers seem delayed and act on what He has said. Faith does not ignore difficulty. It trusts that God remains faithful within it.
The Great Catch Is Souls
Ps Larry returned to Luke 5 and the great catch of fish. The miracle was real, but Jesus revealed the greater purpose: “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
The Great Catch is souls.
God wants our lives to grow and multiply, but not so that blessing stops with us. Deuteronomy 8:18 says:
“You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant.”
The Hebrew word translated as wealth is chayil—pronounced khah’-yil. It includes riches, but reaches further: strength, ability, influence, resources, courage and even an army.
Sometimes He provides finance; at other times, wisdom, favour or strength for the next step.
“Don’t become a swamp. Be a river that God can flow through.”
A river carries life beyond itself. God gives more so we can serve and reach others.
Prayer Begins With God’s Character
Becoming unshakeable begins with prayer, but not prayer as a religious performance. Ps Larry described it as intimate, sincere and honest — a real relationship with God and a genuine desire to see Him move in and through us.
Hebrews 11:6 says that anyone who comes to God must believe that He is and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. Accurate prayer begins with who God is, not with the size of the problem.
Scripture gives us names that reveal His character. He is Jehovah Shammah, the God who is present, so we never pray alone. He is Jehovah Jireh, our Provider, who knows what we need before we ask. God is Jehovah Rapha, our Healer, and Jehovah Shalom, our peace, wholeness and security. When we remember who God is, our circumstances no longer set the tone of our prayer.
“Never start your day or your prayer time by magnifying the mountain, but by calling to remembrance the One who moves mountains.”
Hebrews 6:19 describes hope as an anchor for the soul. When thoughts and emotions pull us in different directions, God’s Word holds us steady.
Pray God’s Promises Back to Him
Second Corinthians 1:20 says:
“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.”
Praying Scripture is not an attempt to force God’s hand. It brings our hearts and words into agreement with what He has already spoken.
Jeremiah 1:12 says that God is actively watching over His Word to fulfil it. David prayed God’s promises. Daniel read Jeremiah’s prophecy and responded with fasting and prayer. Nehemiah reminded God of His covenant. Elijah kept praying after God promised rain.
Their response was not passive. God’s promises moved them to pray and act.
Faith does not deny the facts. As Ps Larry explained, a broken arm is still broken. Faith says, “My arm is broken, but I am trusting God for healing.” The present condition does not get the final say.
Persistent Prayer Produces Victory
Luke 18:1 says that Jesus taught His disciples “always to pray and not give up”.
Joshua kept marching around Jericho. Elijah prayed seven times. The disciples prayed together for ten days before Pentecost.
“A breakthrough delayed is not a breakthrough denied.”
Persistence is not trying to persuade a reluctant God. It is staying faithful while He works in us and prepares what we cannot yet see.
Weariness may tell us to stop praying, stop believing or withdraw from the people God has placed around us. Ps Larry’s challenge was simple: do not quit now.
Speak the Word Until Your Heart Agrees With God
Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing the Word of God. Sometimes the person who most needs to hear us speak God’s truth is us.
Psalm 78 describes how Israel forgot God’s power and allowed complaint to take over. Joshua and Caleb saw the same giants, but said, “The Lord is with us. We are well able.”
Our words can strengthen fear or build faith. What we confess at church should match the direction of our lives at home.
Ps Larry spoke honestly about seasons when pressure and busyness affected his own confession. Many of us know that feeling. The answer is not pretending we are fine. It is returning to the Word until truth becomes louder than fear.
Obedience Must Become a Lifestyle
Faith eventually has to move.
Joshua stepped into the Jordan before the waters opened. The priests carried the Ark forward before they saw a path. Abraham left home before he knew where God was taking him.
Live and act daily according to the Word, not your feelings.
The question to carry into this week is:
What step of obedience is God asking me to take?
It could be forgiving someone, joining a cell, serving, giving or sharing your faith. Every act of obedience says, “God, I believe You.”
A Simple Daily Practice
Ps Larry gave us a practical way to build this into daily life. Read a passage slowly, then write down:
- God’s message to you.
- The promise in the passage.
- Any condition connected to it.
- How you will apply it today.
- A verse, declaration or prayer to carry with you.
Start with five minutes if that is where you are. Include worship from 3C South Coast Music and allow the Word, prayer and praise to shape your day.
A Church That Remembers and Moves
The wilderness generation remembered miracles yet still doubted the next step. Joshua’s generation remembered the covenant and walked forward.
God is raising a Church that knows His promises, prays them and acts on them. The Great Catch is still before us. Families need hope. Communities need Jesus. Souls matter.

You can become unshakeable, not because you will always feel strong, but because God is faithful.

Weekly challenge: Choose one promise from Scripture. Write it down, pray it daily, speak it aloud and act on it before the week ends.
Prayer for the week
Father, You are the covenant-keeping God. Every promise in Your Word is Yes and Amen in Christ.
Teach us to begin with Your character instead of our circumstances. Put Your Word in our hearts and on our lips. Strengthen us when answers seem delayed, and give us courage to obey before we see the outcome.
Let our families serve You. May our church flourish and our lives become rivers through which Your blessing reaches others. Use us for the Great Catch.
We choose faith over fear, truth over doubt and obedience over hesitation.
